Show us the number

Four chairs on 14 Wood Street. Walk in, point at a guard on the chart, and we will know exactly what you mean — which is easier than describing it, and a lot easier than showing us a photograph of someone with different hair.

The chart on the wall

Pick your number

Every clipper guard cuts to a fixed length. Choose the one you want on the sides and the list below narrows to the cuts that actually use it — and the booking form fills itself in. If you have never known what to ask for, this is the whole point of the page.

Nothing picked yet

Press any number above. Most people who walk in and say “short on the sides but not bald” mean a #2 on the sides taken up to a #4, which is the first drawing on the left. If you would rather not decide, say that in the chair — every barber here would rather ask than guess.

Seven guards · 0.5 mm to 25 mm · drawn to one scale

A barber steadying a client's head while running clippers up the side, close enough to see the guard against the skin.
The diagrams are drawings, not photographs — one head, one angle, one scale, so the seven numbers are genuinely comparable. Photographs of seven different heads would look better and tell you less.

Cuts

The board

All 13 cuts

Times are how long the chair is actually occupied, not an optimistic number. Prices are what you pay at the counter — nothing is added on at the end.

  • Skin Fade

Bare blade at the bottom, blended up through a #1 to a #2. Done right there is no line anywhere to point at.

    Guards used#0#1#2
    Time35 min
    Price₹450
  • Low Fade

The fade starts just above the ear and stops there. Nothing shows once your hair is combed — the office cut.

    Guards used#1#2#3
    Time30 min
    Price₹400
  • Mid Fade

Starts level with the temple. This is what most people mean when they walk in and just say "a fade".

    Guards used#1#3#4
    Time30 min
    Price₹400
  • High Fade

Comes up level with the crown, so the contrast is hard and deliberate. Needs a visit every two weeks to stay right.

    Guards used#0#3
    Time35 min
    Price₹450
  • Burst Fade

Fades in an arc around the ear and leaves the back long. Sits well with length on top or a taper at the nape.

    Guards used#0#2
    Time35 min
    Price₹450
  • Taper

Only the neckline and the sideburns come down. Length on the top and sides is left exactly where it was.

    Guards used#1#4
    Time25 min
    Price₹350
  • French Crop

#2 round the sides, scissors on top, fringe left blunt and pushed forward. Good on a receding hairline.

    Guards used#2
    Time30 min
    Price₹400
  • Buzz Cut, One Length

One guard, whole head, nothing blended. Tell us the number and that is exactly what you get.

    Guards used#1#2#3#4#6#8
    Time15 min
    Price₹250
  • Scissor Cut

No clipper touches your head. For length on top, proper layers, or hair that refuses to sit flat.

    Guards usedNone — scissor only
    Time40 min
    Price₹500
  • Trim & Tidy

Keeps the length you already have and cleans the edges. The cut for someone growing something out.

    Guards used#6#8
    Time20 min
    Price₹300
  • Kids' Cut, Under 12

Sam and Priya take the young ones and neither of them rushes. Bring a photo if there is a specific idea.

    Guards used#2#4#6
    Time20 min
    Price₹250
  • Line-Up Only

Hairline, edges and neck squared off between cuts. No length comes off anywhere.

    Guards used#0
    Time10 min
    Price₹150
  • Fade & Beard

A full fade and beard work in one sitting. Worth booking — fifty minutes is hard to slot into a walk-in queue.

    Guards used#0#1#3
    Time50 min
    Price₹700

Under-12s and anyone over 65 pay the kids’ price on any cut. Cash, UPI and card all work. We do not take a deposit and we do not charge for a no-show — just tell us if you cannot make it.

The one to book

Hot-Towel Shave

40 min · ₹600

Two hot towels, pre-shave oil, badger brush and lather, open razor with the grain and then across it, cold towel, balm. Danny does all of them.

It is forty minutes with your eyes shut and it is the only thing in the shop we will ask you not to rush. If you have never had one, have it before something rather than after — you will not want to go straight back to a desk.

  • Beard Trim & Shape

    20 min₹250

Clipper and scissor through the length, cheek line and neck line set by hand.

  • Beard Sculpt, Razor Edge

    30 min₹350

As above, with the cheek and neck lines cut in with an open razor. Holds its edge about ten days.

  • Head Shave, Wet

    30 min₹450

Clippered to zero and then finished wet with an open razor. Genuinely smooth for about two days.

  • Moustache Tidy

    10 min₹120

Ten minutes over the lip and the corners. No charge at all if you are already in the chair for a beard.

Beard lines get set by eye and cut by hand. Nobody here uses a stencil.

Four chairs

Who is in

Days off are fixed, so if you only sit with one person it is worth knowing them. Ask for anybody by name at the door — nobody minds waiting for the chair they want, and nobody here minds being waited for.

Chair 1

Sam

9 years · off Tuesdays

Quickest chair in the room — in and out in twenty minutes if you are on a lunch break. Also the one to sit with if you have brought a child.

Chair 2

Irfan

12 years · off Wednesdays

Skin fades. If you want the taper to disappear completely, give him the full thirty-five minutes and do not rush him at the end.

Chair 3

Danny

7 years · off Thursdays

Open-razor work and every hot-towel shave that leaves this shop. Slowest of the four on purpose — a shave takes forty minutes and it should.

Chair 4

Priya

6 years · off Sundays

Scissor work, curls, and anything with real length on top. Fills up first — walk in before 11am if you want her chair.

All four are on the same price list. Nobody costs more than anybody else here, and nobody is a “senior” anything.

Book a chair

Or just turn up

You don’t need to book. Walk in any time — this just saves you the wait.

Booked chairs are held for ten minutes past the time. After that we take whoever is waiting, and you go to the front of the queue when you arrive. That is the whole policy.

RICHMOND ROADWOOD STREETBERLIE STHOSUR RDTHE FADE ROOMN

Ground floor, between the tailor and the photocopy shop. The shutter is bone white and the door is on the left — there is no sign above it, only the number.

Parking. Two-wheelers go on the pavement outside. Cars: the lane beside the building takes about six, and it is free after 6pm. Do not park in front of the shutter next door — they will move you.
